The choice of diameter of milling tools is decided by milling machine itself and milling dimension of workpiece.

1)     Face milling tools

The most important factor when choose face milling tools is the power should be within the power of milling machine, and it also can be determined by the diameter of spindle. Diameter of milling tools D=1.5d(d is diameter of spindle). For large quantity producing, the diameter of milling tools could be 1.6d.

For producing small quantity non-standard fasteners, Hexagon shape is very common, many fasteners have hexagon shape head, in the past, it needs indexing device for milling hexagon shape, the efficiency of such kind machining technology is very low, and it is easy to make mistake o f indexing. Now, with a special designed fixture, it would be much easy in actual mechanical process, check principle as figure show below. Adding a V-shape on the vise, no need to drill central hole, while milling, mouth of vise is parallel to feeding direction of milling tool, after milling one size, rotate workpiece 60° to make machined face touch V-shape tightly, and adjust height of milling tool and carry on to mill second face. After milling second face, do same steps and carry on third face milling, and so forth.
